Second Fundraiser: Art Show
The Art House, an art gallery in Buckhead, has generously agreed to host a fundraiser for this project on May 16th. Blessed with beautiful weather, we set up a table outside and explained our project to interested art-shoppers. Just from cash donations, we raised over $125. SWaN also received a large percentage of the profits from art sales.
In the next few weeks the team will be finalizing the project and preparing everything needed for an efficient trip.
First fundraiser: 10 Day Cookie Sale
I met with Tracy Hawkins, founder of SAFE Water Now, one weekend in December to discuss the project and our plans for fundraising. Her project is going well, and she urged me to start spreading the word about this project locally. Following up on this, I decided to organize the first fundraiser for the end of December.
The week before Christmas, from Monday the 20th to Friday the 24th, I set up a fundraising table outside Tommy’s Barber Shop in the West Paces Ferry/Northside shopping center to raise money for this project. After five days of sitting outside, selling cookies and receiving donations from hundreds of generous shoppers, I managed to raise exactly $670 (after the cookie expenses) that will all go towards my trip this summer.
Overall, this was a very successful fundraiser that couldn’t have been done without help from my family and everyone who donated. Even so, much more hard work is required in order to raise enough support for this project. In the next few months I’ll be organizing bigger fundraisers and collaborating with Tracy to help us with this cause. Merry Christmas! Kyle (December 25th, 2010)
*update* After a five more days of selling cookies, I’ve raised over $1100 dollars.
